VERT FAST-TWITCH training revolves around the science of isokinetics and its application to sports performance. When training to improve performance, it is important to analyze and then enhance the speed at which the athlete moves from point A to point B, and how fast the extremities move throwing or kicking an object. How quickly he or she "explodes" when leaping, jumping, moving forward or backward or from side to side, or how fast the athlete reacts when placed in time sensitive athletic situations are all part of this science.

Speed, quickness, velocity and explosion are all sport buzzwords of the nineties. Until the introduction of isokinetics in to the performance arena, from the rehabilitation perspective, training for speed, quickness, velocity, etc, was limited to plyometrics and other eccentrically loaded exercise programs. These are effective up to only about 70 degrees per second and with eccentrically loaded programs, there is always the threat of injury. The load on joints and stretch on muscles associated with this form of training may eventually break down the musculoskeletal system and limit the speeds at which the athlete can train. With iso-kinetics and computer-driven exercise training, the athlete can now train at high speeds of 300 to 900 degrees per second with only concentric load, requiring no load on the joints or stretch on the muscles.

VERT FAST-TWITCH training system is done against variable velocity that accommodates the different speeds required throughout the range of motion. The nervous system is trained to move rapidly through the slow-twitch and medium-twitch peripheral reflex arc and then "fire off" using the FAST-TWITCH reflex arc. This immediate and deliberate training of the Fast-Twitch nerve fiber increases the speeds at which muscles contract. The faster the muscle contracts, the faster the limb moves. The faster the limb moves, the faster a person can run, the higher a person can jump, the harder they can hit, the farther they can throw, the better they can functionally perform. Increased power equals increased performance! Furthermore, the simplified version of the power equation is: power = force x velocity. Traditionally, athletes have created tremendous gains on the force side of this equation using free weights and weight machines to bench press, squat, and cling, etc. In doing this their performance increased as a result of the increase in overall power, which was increased by the gains made on the force portion of the equation.

We ask the question: "Is the athlete who can squat 500 pounds, bench 200 pounds, cling 400 pounds the best athlete?" He is probably the strongest athlete but not necessarily the best performing athlete. Why? Primarily with free weights and weight machines, the athlete is training at speeds of seven to ten degrees per second while their sport requires them to perform at 300 to 900 degrees per second on the field of play. The athlete's overall strength is very important! At VERT FAST-TWITCH however, our secret is to increase strength and thus power, by training the athlete at top speeds. Strength training in a controlled environment at ten times the speed the athlete normally trains when using free weights, allows the athlete to simultaneously train the velocity portion (the nervous system) of the power equation for maximum strength and "Peak Power Performance". The VERT FAST-TWITCH isokinetics training is in essence, power training. As an example, if two people can bench press 200 pounds but one can do it in half the time it means they both have the same strength but the faster person has created more power. Now that we have learned how to apply computer driven power training, we can dynamically impact strength, speed, quickness, explosion, endurance and recovery with consistent and quantifiable accuracy.
